HoyLunes – Yesterday, September 26, 2025, Valencia became a great square of thought and words with the inauguration of the 17th Congress of Writers for Human Rights. Organized by the Ateneo Blasco Ibáñez in collaboration with the Faculty of Law of the University of Valencia and the Council of Culture of the Generalitat, the congress brought together voices from across the country under the same horizon: that of human dignity. Today, the event continues with the participation of other expert speakers.

At this gathering, the intervention of M.ª Pilar Rueda Requena, president of the Valencian Association for the Promotion of the Economy for the Common Good (AVEBC), offered a different and necessary perspective. Her lecture, entitled “The Economy for the Common Good: A Value for Peace“, reminded the audience that the economy is not only about numbers but also about ethics, coexistence, and a shared future.

Rueda Requena spoke from experience and action, drawing on her background as a trainer, researcher, and author of «The Municipality of the Common Good». She argued that another way of understanding the economy is possible: an economy that prioritizes cooperation over competition, justice over privilege, and sustainability over depletion.

This congress stood as a testament to dialogue and commitment.

With a clear and approachable tone, she stressed: “Peace cannot flourish if the economy sows inequality”, inviting reflection on how economic decisions directly affect people’s lives and the possibility of building fairer societies.

The congress addressed topics as diverse as the rights of Arab women, the housing crisis, the impact of artificial intelligence on human dignity, and conflicts in the Middle East. Within this framework, Rueda Requena’s speech placed on the table an essential idea: human rights are also at stake in the economic sphere.

Her proposal was not presented as a closed formula but rather as an invitation to imagine a world in which markets serve people and not the other way around. It was a call to sow awareness and collective action in times when indifference threatens to normalize inequality.

Rueda Requena, together with some of the attendees, participated in a space of dialogue and shared reflection.

The 17th Congress of Writers for Human Rights thus left, in every word and every lecture, a testimony of dialogue and commitment. Pilar Rueda’s voice reminded us that peace begins in the everyday: in the way we produce, consume, and share.
